Ripe has been doing a lot of research lately and once again we found another little treasure to share with you - Joram Roukes Whilst not all his work strikes a chord with us, it isn’t without merit, Joram is a very talented painter and we look forward to seeing what he produces in the future.

We pick out our favs for your viewing pleasure!

Joram:

Roukes' large scaled oil paintings refer to the moral dilemmas one may find himself in, viewing today's western society. Through experience by participation Joram Roukes reflects not necessarily an opinion on society's flaws or faux in his work, but rather observes and reports on typical western phenomena, leaving judgement up to the viewer, who thereby, establish their own position in these matters.

Ripe has just stumbled upon this little gem and we just had to share it! In fact, it's so good we decided to give a drum roll......*Ddddddddddddddddd-Da-De-DUM!*

Ripe presents the mega talented Lou Ros and we love Lou's deconstructed portraits, with lashings of the self imposed (carefully selected/altered images) glamour of the Internet dating sites participants and just the slightest hum of disturbing. (let's face it, Internet date sites are kinda creepy) Each work is beautiful crafted and expertly executed, Ripe is in love all over again.

Lou:
What about the image we give of ourselves online ? This series examines the ability to hide whilst making believe that we reveal ourselves. I took the example of a dating site and noticed that some members have photos of themselves surrounded by friends or family whose faces are blotted out with white oval masks.

According to the websites rules, you are only allowed to show one person in your picture which is intended to attract your prince charming or your one night stand. I wondered why they hadn't simply taken a photo of themselves alone? Why would someone use a photo where they had to blot out a family member or a friend ? The reason clearly isn't resentment but the desire to show, at any cost, this random photo that makes them feel good-looking.

The need to please on these dating sites enabled me to find compelling images that I wanted to recreate in my painting.

EM is digital butchers paper - an open platform were anything goes, no rules, no formulas, no rights and no wrongs - just pure expressions and experimentation's showcasing the power of imagination.

Experimental Mental’s is all about documenting the process, a celebration of the little paths we take and those we discover on the way to achieving the final product – the big picture.

What we are after is a little something from you, yup, that’s right, your experiments, your visual diary entries, the little scribbles and notes to self on scarp paper, napkins, the back of shopping dockets etc. The experiments that went right and even the ones that went wrong – EM knows no rules and has no bounds, it’s all about the imagination and everything that it involves.

So.... Experimental Mental's is a Monthly Artist Submission OutLet showcasing Artists of all Visual Genres. Each Month on the First Saturday of the Month artists will be ask to submit their work so that by the following weekend the Second Saturday of that Month the work can be Launched - ShowCased on TheRipeCollective™ Blog.. This ShowCase will run on a monthly basis till the end of the year.

What will Experimental Mental's do for you - Monthly Exposure on TheRipeCollective™ Blog, having your work published and your work exhibited Australia wide with the intention of Experimental Mental's Exhibiting Internationally.

I recently bought a book in which to write my goals. It asked me to write my top 5 values in life. The first one popped into my head without a second of thought: FAMILY.

Whatever it means to you, don’t forget the things or people you value in life. Take a moment out of your busy schedules and have a little think about what makes you tick, what motivates you, and what gets your blood pumping and revving to go in the morning. Remind yourself why you do the things you do. And don’t lose sight of your ultimate goal.

It Is AMAZING... It Is BEAUTIFUL....

Osama Bin Laden is dead. Americans are partying in the streets. Dozens of nation’s leaders are applauding the US for finally finding and stopping this instigator of terror and destruction. Twitter is going nutso with tweets of excitement.

It is AMAZING. It is WONDERFUL.

But for me, it’s kind of a non-deal.

And why is that?

To me, the death of Osama Bin Laden highlights things I will never understand about this world; things that make me frown with confusion and cringe with disbelief.

In this global village we live in, we are so quick to celebrate an achievement of assassination. There has been a mass amount of time and money (as well as a priceless amount of precious life) wasted on hunting for this someone. So many thinkers put in so much effort to ponder and discuss the most effective way of carrying out this task. An entire nation was transfixed on this one ‘achievement’.

But there are children dying of starvation all over the world. There are people without clean drinking water. There are homeless people in first world countries. There are those who suffer from mental illnesses, who cannot speak out and who quietly suffer. People who are lost. Poor. Cold. Hungry. Forgotten.

Could you imagine the positive changes we can make in this life, if the sweat that was put into finding the number one most dangerous man (to America) was instead put into helping our fellow human, our earth, our existence?

I have some sort of idea of what that could be like. Which is why, when I hear the words: OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD, all I can think is: WHERE HAS ALL THE LOVE GONE?

Christopher Anderson

Christopher Anderson created a body of work titled Capitolio, a documentary series of his time in the heart of contemporary Caracas, Venezuela and interestingly instead of just publishing these wicked photos in the usual way he has also realised them via iPad and iPhone. Ripe loves that which keeps with technology. 

As well as this, Christopher has created his own "director's cut" video interview- found at the end of the iPad/iPhone experience and to add to this awesome experience further, the video completely utilises the iPad's unique swiping page turn. Anderson "This design of the print book was itself an experiment in trying to rip a cinematic experience from the silver screen and stuffing it onto the printed page. This aspect is actually accentuated in the swipeable form."

Underwater Sculptor

Jason de Cairis Talyor's underwater sculptures are moving, haunting and lets face ti unusual, not the subject matter but the location - somewhere in the ocean off Mexico.... whilst one can appreciate the magnificence's of the work and it is truly beautiful with its ephemeral surfaces (all work is made from materials that are durable, secure and environmentally sensitive) has any looked into fi there are any negative effects?? How about the sea floor in which these pieces are placed - are they obstructing other flora and fauna?

It's true that artificial reefs lifts the pressure off our natural reefs, which have been in many cases over fished and destroyed and Ripe can see the positive benefits that these sculptures now-come artificial reefs do provided and despite mixed feelings overall, Ripe would still love to suit up and dive down to see these visual marvels.

Binary Code Pysco-Graphy

Recently Ripe posted a graphic representation of the H1N1 virus. In addition to the visual representation we also included a binary code representation which was sequenced without any real code referencing.

Just found out what the off- hand binary code looks like text formatted..

It’s a shame, we really thought the binary code would represent at least something text legible, although when you think about it.

what is H1N1?

Of course it’s been DNA mapped, which derives its genetic footprint, but how would that data look in binary code ASII? Could the DNA code simply be collated into Binary? Whenever you see rudimentary DNA code it’s been visually represented as punch card data?

Of course there’s the double helix, but in data form isn’t DNA Code Sequence graphically represented as Punch Card Data>

Ahhh…

Just Googlayed “DNA Code Sequence” & found that Punch Card Data image. The correct terminology is a DNA Auto-radiogram.

So the question still stands, can a DNA Auto-radiogram be transcribed into Binary Code ASII? Fuck that let’s pump it to ‘Next Level Assemblage™’. How would you write Boards of Canada’s ‘The Campfire Headphase’ album in Binary Code?????

Is it possible to supplant emotion into Binary Code? & in this circumstance, could intense emotional experiences, such as a euphoric Techno Verve ™ experienced from a music source be represented in Binary Code?

Is it possible to equate transcendence with 1’s & 0’s?
